2001 UK Census

Relayed by Scott Raun

It's official: "Jedi Knight" is ON the list of religions for the 2001 UK census. A campaign to get people to write the entry on their census forms has succeeded in the term being included on the list of religions, alongside Church of England, Roman Catholic, Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu.

Sufficient numbers of people wrote the entry in for it to be allocated its own code for the census processing team to use. But officials from the Office of National Statistics are keen to point out that just because Jedi Knight has been given its own code, that does not confer on it the status of official recognition. "We are not defining what a religion or a faith might be," a spokeswoman said. "We are recognising what some may have entered on their census form and ensuring that our coding framework will cater for it."

Other religions which are included on the list, alongside the better known cases, are the Church of Free Love, Wiccan, Divine Lightmission, and Coleraine Christian Centre.

Recent Deaths

Reported by Dee Sullivan

Less than two months after the death of Aaliyah, The Matrix sequels have lost yet another key cast member.

Gloria Foster, the distinguished African-American actress most recently known for her grandmotherly, spoon-bending performance as Oracle in 1999's sci-fi blockbuster, died of complications from diabetes Saturday at her New York home. She was 64.

Foster earned raves for the performance, and she was set to reprise her role in both sequels--Matrix Reloaded and the untitled third installment, produced by Joel Silver and written and directed by Andy and Larry Wachowski.

Foster's character is said to be "integral" to the series and would create another huge problem for the films, which were being shot back-to-back in Australia.

Star Trek --NBC's game show Weakest Link

Star Trek stars William Shatner, Denise Crosby, John De Lancie, Wil Wheaton, LeVar Burton, Robert Picardo, Roxann Dawson and Armin Shimerman will beam into an alternate universe--NBC's game show Weakest Link, where they will compete in a themed episode airing Nov. 26, Zentertainment reported.

CAPTAIN’S LOG

Well October has been a very busy month for me. As you know I have be no out in California for most of the month. So I have been out of the loop for the most part.

So here is what is coming up in the next couple of months.

November The next General and Board Meetings will be on Sunday November 18th. The board will meet at 1pm. I will send out an agenda closer to the meeting. The General meeting we will have some business to discus. Then the medical department will be hosting their annual Silent Auction. While the board is meeting the medical department needs help setting up the auction tables. We could use 2 or 3 people for this. So please bring your items for bidding. Your old treasures can be someone’s new treasures. Also bring plenty of money so you can by those treasures the others have donated. By the way the next meeting will be at the Sun Ray Library in East St.Paul. Start time will be at 2pm. Look for the directions towards the back of the newsletter.

December The holiday party will be December 8th. It will be slightly different this year. There will not be the traditional potluck meal. This year the Nokomis has opted to do a cookie exchange instead. So please eat be for you go. The directions were put in the last newsletter. They will also be put into the December newsletter.

If I don’t see you at the next meeting have a great holiday season. Just a reminder I will be in California again the first two weeks of December. So I will not be at the Christmas party either.

Again have a great holiday season. Hope to see you at the next meeting.

Captain Steve Erickson

MEDICAL LOG

Gadgets and gizmos aplenty, whozits and whatzits galore...imagine what you'll find at the Behr'Ak silent auction on November 18! Videos, books, action figures and collectables, household & costuming items...there's bound to be something for everybody. Here's what you can do to help make this fundraiser a success: 1) decide what you can donate, and 2) bid on other people's stuff. Silent auctions can be fun! There are always a couple items that are "hot" - a little friendly rivalry can't hurt. As mentioned last month, the goal is to raise $100 for our club coffers. In other Medical Department news, for those members who need to fill out or update a medical records form they will be available at the November general meeting. Keep healthy and enjoy our ever-changing autumn weather. See you on the 18th.

Ginger Revoir, CMO

SECURITY LOG

Dear Club,

Sorry, I have been occupied with military and other duties. Since recent events, I've been busy with both my government jobs for obvious reasons. Starting this week, my life has been going back to normal and I'm looking forward to spending some time with the club, unless I get reactivated. Because of recent events, some of the projects we talk about have been pushed way back. I would like to set-up a date in the near future in order to finish some current projects. As our president said we must go on with our lives. So, lets get the club going and hopefully I won't be reactivated.

Chief of Security, Dan Zimlich

ENGINEERING LOG

Hi there, everyone!

I hope the past month has had some moments of calm, peace, and even laughter for each one of you.

This has been a strange month to say the least. On October 1, Monday, the building adjacent to where I live burnt down to the ground and there was a danger of a sumber of us losing our home and a nearby theater. This 45-year-old Starfleet officer could put some cadets to shame with a few fast moves. The firemen and firewomen worked extremely hard to save what they could – especially our lives. Hats off, and Qapla! To these fine folks and their colleagues everywhere!

The new show Enterprise is off to a fine start – a good ship, interesting crew. It will take time to give the characters and non-24th century tech a chance, but it’s worth it. There have been articles in an umber of publications about the show, so the world is getting out there. If non-Trek fans of the show get exposed to Star Trek as well, as a result of watching the show, then they will meet, perhaps, some of us fans, and find we do have a life and don’t bite!

Anyways, may we all have good days ahead somehow and have those days be filled with happy moments and pleasant adventures.

Hailing frequencies closed,

Sarah J. Tesch, Chief Engineer
