This month’s column is an end of the year column. The MN lottery has a new scratch game based on the Monopoly game. It costs $3 per ticket or $10 for a three-pack with a special drawing entry. On each ticket is a scratch piece for Monopoly properties. Since McDonald’s is not running this game, it is possible to find all of the properties needed in the color group. I will work as a clearing board for people needing to match up their property with someone else to make some complete sets.
Con of the North, the local gaming convention, is being held on February 15th through 17th at the St. Paul Ramada Inn. The weekend costs $35 and the group can be contacted at www.conofthenorth.org or 651-698-8565.
The best news is that I finally beat the Star Wars Episode I pinball game on New Year’s Eve. I made it a full level past “Jedi Spirit” and finished with 255 million points. My score placed me as number 2 on the machine, but it did not even earn me a free game. I played the game at the Camp Snoopy arcade. It has been re-set for maximum player benefits unlike the machine at Julian’s. I guess I will have to beat up on some other pinball game now.

We lost another Science Fiction author.
Jack Carroll Haldeman, II -- December 11, 1941 - January 1, 2002.
Author of numerous short stories, plus the novels - HIGH STEEL, ECHOES OF THUNDER, BILL THE GALACTIC HERO ON THE PLANET OF SLIME ZOMBIES, THE FALL OF WINTER, THE ICEWORLD CONNECTION, THERE IS NO DARKNESS, PERRY'S PLANET, and VECTOR ANALYSIS.
His daughter e-mailed that “True to form, he chose a moment when nobody was looking at him--he always did cringe at being the center of attention. He went peacefully, as the family was sitting around him, telling jokes and laughing.
I encourage anyone who would like to, to please visit my father's web site, http://www.sff.net/people/jack.haldeman/.”
It was a small crowd but the January meeting was a lot of fun. We spent about thirty-five minutes talking about what is coming up in the next couple months. We spent the rest of the time boning up on our Star Trek Trivia. I an effort to get more people to our general meetings I plan to run them different this year. To keep events fresh in our minds we will be discussing only two months at a time. So here is what coming up:
February 9th - Bowling against the Czar’Ak. Bowling will be at Lariat Lanes in Richfield. It is located between Hwy 62 and 66th St. Start time will be at 2pm. Shoe and Game cost I will forward the week of the event. To get to the bowling alley check for the map at the back of the newsletter. FYI- this has been designated the meeting for the month.
February 17th - The general meeting has been canceled. As previously stated bowling will be taking the place of this gather.
February 23rd Poker night is back. We will be playing over at Janet’s place. Instead of being in the clubhouse we will be in the smaller party room in one of the apartment buildings. Janet will get details out. Just for the record Paul and Janet were the big winners last month.
Since we are not having the meeting on the 17th club dues will not be taken until the March meeting. To avoid confusion we did not want to take them at bowling.
Membership rates are as follows: Individual $12 and Family $15. Currently our membership sits at around 30. One of the goals this year is to increase our club membership.
March 1st –3rd - MarsCon the three-day convention put on by the fans. We will not be doing a room party this year. We will be putting our efforts into fanfare. Erin Akin is heading up this effort to make sure we get the best showing possible. For those of you that volunteered to help her she will be contacting you to come up with a great plan for that event. If you did not get your ticket in advance that’s to bad. You cannot purchase tickets any more. You will need to get them at the door. For the weekend it will be $50. But regardless we hope to see you at this event. It should be a great time.
March 17th – This will be the day of our Annual Awards Ceremony. We will be holding it at Lois Olson party room again. Start time will be at 2pm as usual. Further information will be forth coming.
That’s it for this month. I hope to see you at the bowling event. It should be a good day. Bring your best game.

Greetings Trekkers!
Here we are writing the newsletter logs for February already. Where does the time go? Can anyone answer that? If you give me a worthy answer to the question where does time go I will publish it in the next newsletter!
The January meeting was well attended. Those people attending were: Steve, Teri, Ralph, Katie, Lois, Sarah T., Jim, DeeDee, Paul, Susan, and me. After discussion a good game of Star Trek trivia was played and enjoyed.
A few things to remember: dues will be due at the March meeting. They are $12 for a single and $15 for a family. What a deal! Same price as last year. All points need to be turned in to me by February first in preparation for the March Awards ceremony. I apologize now for missing the ceremony. That turned out to be the time I have to attend a reading conference for my job. I will be in San Francisco.
Poker will be February 23 at the smaller Party Room at my apartment complex, The Classic in Woodbury. This Party Room is in the only building across the street (Guider) from the Clubhouse. Call me at 651-714-0737 for directions or to let me know you are coming. Bring $2 in pennies and $3 for pizza. January¹s event was well attended. Paul. Steve, Teri, Keith, Dan Z., and I all played. Who won? A few of us actually left with more than we started with.
The last Wednesday night Enterprise viewing was fun. We watched the show then used the Jacuzzi. People attending were Ralph, Erin and Kathleen, Steve and Teri, Dan Z. (better late than never) and me. Watch the fireopal site for weekly info about Enterprise viewing together or call me for details.
I suppose you have heard by now that this will be the last season for the X-Files. It¹s about time. I would like to stop watching it! Problem is, it is still very good! So, let¹s hear from you about your predictions for the ending. David Duchonovy has expressed interest to Fox in doing the finale. Is Fox Mulder really a clone? Will the baby survive? Will earth survive?
I want to thank the Behr’Ak members who volunteered at the Lupus Booth at the Women¹s Expo in January. They were Sarah S., Ginger, Susan, and Erin.
Finally, birthdays coming up are:
Jan. 24 Katie Jennie
Jan.31 Sarah Tesch
Feb. 19 Steve Erickson
March 19 James Kevins
March 21 Ginger Revoir
March 22 Marie Listopad
April 4 Erin Akins
April 19 Keith Crabtree
Hope to see you at one of the February events!
Jan Cummins
Winter is half over and it’s been an event-filled season so far. In fact, between work and the holidays, I forgot to do a newsletter article last month. Thanks to those who volunteered for the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota at the Women's Expo. Erin, Sarah and Susan, thank you. I had the pleasure of volunteering with my sister-in-law, who has lupus and therefore is able to provide a personal aspect. As always, the Foundation is grateful for the time our members give. As for the second half of winter, I have a feeing it will also be full of activity. I hope to attend many Behr'Ak functions and to see you there

Hi, here!
How we are into a new year and hopefully for us all – a good one. Part of this involves starting off on the right foot j- or the left if that is the best one for you. This last fall, I damaged my right foot – the wrong shoes for tennis being a potential suspect. Plantar Facisis hurts like … well, a nail head imbedded in your heel that makes itself known with about every step you take. Actually, it referred fain from a damaged arch. Tennis with its lateral side-to-side movements hosts a lot of such injuries. Fortunately for me, I wasn’t at the U.S. Open this past fall or somewhere else in the world battling it out for a tournament win and big addition to my pocketbook! No, this injury may have occurred chasing the ball at the Loring Park courts and trying to avoid the numerous goose dropping retrieving it from out-of-bounds. Suffice to say, you won’t see me at Wimbledon this year! The foot gets better with rest, ice, exercise, and proper footwear. The New Year for me has been off to a limping but steady foot forward.
With MarsCon coming soon, it did not surprise me that changes are being made to the weapons policy at the convention. Understandably, there is concern about not having a scare in the hotel, especially with other guests there who may or may not understand the passion of Science Fiction and Fantasy fans for some of our more “extraordinary” props. The byword is leave it at home if it’s real or looks real enough to attract sudden attention from local law enforcement or homeland security! If you’re not sure of the status of your arsenal, get it inspected at Ops. Meanwhile, this poses a challenge to any of us who bring such props to conventions – to create safe, and safe-looking props. An engineering challenge to be sure. Keep you informed.

There was no newsletter published in January due to lack of
contributions. The March newsletter will be published on February 23rd, so it
will be ready to go for MarsCon. Please get your logs and articles to myself or
Scott by the 16th.

Hello All:
Sorry
that I haven't contributed to the newsletter in the last couple of month, I
just haven't had anything to put in it. Things have been very fluid around my
place lately. Due the drop in tourists at Camp Snoopy I have had to switch
jobs. I am now working full time at the Airport doing Security. It's a little
more fun then Camp Snoopy. I would also like to wish everyone Merry Christmas
and a happy new year. Due to my schedule I am not able to do much with the
club.
Thanks
Doug Norton
